15th August 2007: Three semi-finals in Two Days by Casper Scheible age 9

Three semi-finals in Two Days

Hi my name is Casper Scheible and I’m nine years old. I just came back from summer holiday and I played three tournaments in two days.

The first one was a nine and under at St. George’s Hill. I won all the matches in the group. The results were 6-1, 5-2 and 6-1. In the semi finals I lost 6-0. I was really happy that I came that far in the tournament. I had some very good serves and some aces.

Later that day I played a green ten and under tournament at David Lloyds. I won two out of three matches in the group. The results were 7-1 7-3, 7-5 7-4 and the one I lost was 4-7 7-2 10-6. The best two in the group went to the semi-finals and I came second. I lost the semi-final 5-7 7-5 10-3. I felt very proud that I had got to two semi-finals in one day. I had good serves again and I also had quite a lot of backhand winners.

The next day I played a twelve and under tournament at Wimbledon Park. I won every match in my group. The results were 4-3, 4-1 and 4-3. In both matches I won 4-3 - I was down 3-1! When I came to the semi-finals I felt quite nervous. I lost the semi-finals 4-3 4-0. I was so joyful even though I lost. I had amazing forehands. I also managed to get points longer than they should have been.

I enjoyed the tournaments more than I normally do.

10th May 2007: My first orange tournament win by Gemma Southwick Aged 7

On saturday the 5th May I played an orange tournament at Hadley Wood.
There was 8 boys and 3 girls. Chris the coach split us up into 3 round
robin boxes and put a girl in each
box.
We had to score ourselves first up to 10 points.
I won 2 matches and lost 1 in my box.
Then chris separated the boys and girls and I had to play the 2 girls
and
I
won both of my matches and won the Gold medal for the girls.
I played lots of tennis and had lots of fun.

Gemma Southwick.

30th April 2007

This month we also have two articles for the WJTI website by one of the players.  Lila is 9 years old and is one of the WJTI performance players and plays four times a week.  She has represented Surrey at Under 10 level and last year was selected to attend one of the LTA's National Training Camps with two other WJTI players.

Easter Tournaments by Lila Simpson

During the first week of the Easter holidays I played in the Under 10 and Under 12 tournaments at Westside.   In the Under 12's I won my first match, then my second match.   I was in the quarter finals and played against a girl who was twelve and had played internationally.   I learned a lot from my match but this time did not win.

I actually won the whole event in the Under 10's.   My victory earned me a silver cup, a racket bag, an over grip and some sweat bands.

In the second week of the holidays I played at Sheen.   Again I played in both the Under 10 and Under 12 events.   I got knocked out in the second round of the Under 12's by an 8.1.   I didn't mind too much though as I won the Under 10 tournament!   It was a pretty good Easter holiday.
